Post VM 2466 mod's Reply with quote
To: Steve D

I'm new to the forum, and just had my cherry blown out by the 2466.

Just picked up my VM 2466, and I must say that now I know what everyone's raving about. The tone on this is much more rich than in my JVM. I had it tweaked to killer tone within 30 minutes, and I'm totally satisfied. I also understand that Steve D designed this amp with certain cost restrictions too. My question is; are there any upgrades to original parts that Steve (or any other forum member) might recommend to either create a more durable, more functional or better sounding amp, if cash was not an object? Don't get me wrong though, I absolutely love this thing. It seems like I have more control with my LP now, and more notes are defineable and heard. I just wonder what Steve D might have done with a larger budget.

Thanks,

Welcome to the forum Coxie. Smile

There wasn't a budget restriction on the parts because it is a flagship amp. The costing targets were to try and make it easy (and therefore quicker) to build and service, more of a production engineering thing really.

I personally wouldn't change a thing, it's right on the mark as far as I'm concerned. Smile

Antoine,

Just looking to enhance longevity. The tone is killer, and I just want to amp to last a very long time.

I have a story that speaks to the build quality of Marshall Amps. Where I grew up, in South Carolina, there was a guitar player I knew that had a Marshall head. Can't remember what model, this was somewhere in the late 80's. He performed an outdoor gig at the lake and while transporting his amp it somehow got dropped in the water, completely submerged. He fished it out and removed the tubes, and let it dry out for a week. After cleaning it up a bit and putting the tubes back in he fired it up and it was good as new.

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is you're amp is probably already as tough as it needs to be. Wink
