Dude, I only play Strats and Teles, so from my point of view, your missing out. Smile I prefer single coils and think you can shape your sound more with the volume and tone on them then humbuckers. LPs, SGs and stuff are great, I have just always been a Fender guy. The longer scale length might take a little getting used to if you haven't played a full size mans guitar before, lol.

+1 on single coils I agree with Kongels. I also only play Fenders. I had a nice Les Paul and sold it for that exact reason.
It's like having a Swiss army knife compared to a butter knife. No doubt Les pauls and SG's are great at what they do
they are smooth fat and crunchy but they can't give me those clean Tones I love. Wink

All of the American series (American Standard, American Vintage, etc) are great guitars and have great build quality. There's really no need to upgrade anything because the parts are top-notch. Of course you can change pickups if the stock are not to your liking. Be sure to try both a maple and a rosewood neck. They sound and feel a bit different. Rosewood tend to be a little more growly and maple a little brighter and with a slightly deeper bottom. I like both myself Smile

Rory played a rosewood & Clapton always uses maple. I prefer the feel of the rosewood but only slightly.
I tend to think the rosewood produces a slightly darker tone while the maple is a little brighter.

That would be a very nice first Strat. Persoanlly I only buy Strats with maple necks, I do not like the rosewood necks. I also love the white color.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. One nice thing about Fenders is that if you want to change something it is very easy to do.

Post Maple VS Rosewood Reply with quote
Tony C and Slowpokerhino hit the nail on the head Rosewoods are warmer sounding think Hendrix first album Are you Experienced ?
compared to Maple necks Hendrix at Woodstock and Band of Gypsy's. I agree with Surf I personally like the Maple necks.
Both my strat's have maple necks however Lord willing I Plan my next one to be a rosewood neck mainly just for different tones and
recording option's. You can always up grade to different pick ups change necks whatever you want with Fenders they are very easy
guitars to customize I have built three different strat's from parts. You can even take them apart basically unbolt the neck and
pack the neck and body in a suitcase when you are going out of town and re assemble it and put your strings on it when you arrive at your destination.

Or you can just send your axe in a hard shell case like normal people do but some of us on this forum are a little twisted
Shocked

Just kidding of course about the twisted part.. However, on the suitcase thing......I used to work as a baggage handler so trust me on that one Wink
I hate checking my guitar when I fly I would rather take it on with my as a carry on and with a Strat or a Tele it is very easy to do that.
One more reason that I love Fenders they are just low maintenance in general and my favorite guitar players all play strats.
It was the Strat/Marshall tone that got me interested in playing in the first place.

Don't be afraid of maple being "too bright" it isn't like when people say an amp is too "bright". There is nothing wrong with Rosewood as well. They are both great and you can't go wrong. One must appeal to you over the other so go with that.

I got am American series with a maple neck and put Fralin "blues specials" in it which are a little darker than stock (and fatter). Problem solved, the great look of a maple neck with the tone of a rosewood (I think)! Wink

Lovely strat Very Happy only thing is, the first thig i'd do is replace the tuners to schaller locking tuners and put in either a roller nut or very low friction graphite/teflon nut - did that on my strat and it makes a lot of difference to the ease of use when it comes to using the trem. Good for versatility.
