Post EZ Drummer ... Any good? Reply with quote
Well, I've spent about a day so far downloading EZ Drummer with all the expansion packs, and I'm about half way there. Happened to think, "Gee, this might be a real piece of shit, and I'll have wasted two days." Crying or Very sad

Anybody use it? I know the .wav clips can't be as good as BFD, but I don't have 55 GIGS to spare on any of my drives.

I have used it and I think it's very good considering the relatively small size of the samples. Another good drum module is Addictive Drums which I think is better than BFD even.

One advantage of EZ Drummer is that it's very easy (EZ) to use, and the drum patterns are definately usable.

Thanks Tony. Yeah, since I'm just learning this MIDI and sequencer stuff -- not to mention recording in general -- 'very easy (EZ)' is good. Since I suffer from Cronic Crowded Hard-Drive Syndrome, the 'relatively small size of the samples' is also good. Mr. Green

I think I might have seen Addictive Drums on Usenet, I'll have to go back and look again, but are the samples large like BFD?

Slightly off the topic but I would highly recommend a Boss DR 880 drum machine.
I am no drummer and I haven't tried programming any drum tracks with it but I have found it absolutely invaluable as a guitar practising tool.
It has got 500 or so prerecorded backing tracks on it and the sound module from a Boss GT6.
You can plug your headphones in and wail away with a full band sound without disturbing anyone.
It is MIDI compatible although I haven't tried that.
I have also played it through a PA and then set up my floor processor which sounds much more realistic when you set up patches against a backing track.

Well, thanks Mark4625, it sounds great, but I'm afraid you can't digitize a Boss DR 880 drum machine, so I doubt if I'll see one posted in the newsgroups. See, I'm looking at free solutions. Mr. Green

Seems like EZ Drummer would be perfect for you Altanon Smile
It's only 2.7 GB on the hardrive with the Cocktail, DFH, Percussion and Vintage expansions installed.

Addictive Drums comes on two DVD discs and only take up 1.85 GB on the harddrive. The great thing about Addictive Drums is that is has a lot of internal processing capabilities like EQ, compressor, gate, saturation and reverb. It's possible to shape the sounds of the already excellent sounding drum samples in many ways making them sound like different drums. It's a bit more complicated to use compared to EZ Drummer though.

What's good is that both are small on the drive compared to monsters like BFD and DFHS... 100 GB and 70 GB with a couple of expansions installed Shocked

I love it! they didn't have it in stock at 3!!! different guitar center and scam cash (read: sam ash) when I bought BFD instead. Sad
but yeah, I've used it, and I love it.

EZ Drummer is really good and I also use DFH but I use EZ when I'm in a rush and I really like the sound of it...
If you don't like the samples just write your own... Cool

EZ drummer is great once you learn how to use it, it is kind of complicated.

Drums on demand is alot easier, you get the same result from both in quality though
once you learn it.
I have had many people ask me who my drummer is, and its kind of hard to explain
to people.
Some of the drummers are famous, they dont know me, i just own thier drum loops Very Happy

Since I only need a beatbox for basics, if I am not just using the metronome function in qbase, I use the alessis drum machine. it synks (sp.?) up well, and its pretty much plug and play.

It needs more cowbell!

Basically I'm looking for something for PC that has actual drum loops. I've seen too many carrot and stick things in this arena. Logic II for the Mac has drum loops. I don't want to have to lay out a drum kit and essentially learn to play drums. I might as well buy Rock Band for the XBox and learn what I'm doing there first because I haven't the foggiest idea of how to play drums, what to strike when, and whatever. I need a virtual drum set for dummies.
